Phoenix Associates works with a number of high end suppliers throughout North America to offer the very best materials for our customers. Based on user specification, we can source material from our network of trusted providers, or are happy to use customer supplied goods. All suppliers are either ISO certified or must provide other documentation validating the quality of their processes and craftsmanship. In general, we break down materials into two distinct categories: extruded rubber, and roll/sheet goods.

Many gaskets require a pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) to hold the unit in place until the seal is made, or in applications where the seal is broken/remade multiple times (ie a door or control panel cover). Phoenix Associates stocks high quality PSAs from industry leading manufacturers, which we apply to a variety of materials. We will also acquire adhesives to meet your own specifications if we do not currently have one in stock. PSA can be applied to roll or sheet goods for small or large production runs. Use our extensive experience in the rubber industry to guide your decisions, or provide us with a spec, and we will meet it.

Vulcanizing is essentially welding with rubber. It is a great alternative to injection molding for smaller runs of O-rings, up to a few thousand parts. After the material is cut to length (most often cord or tubing), a liquid rubber adhesive is applied to either end and allowed to cure. Then, the joint is fit into a press at temperatures up to 500° F. The combination of heat and pressure weld the two ends together, creating a bond that is as strong, if not stronger, than the parent material. With 30 standard presses, 4 NorMec machines (for sponge rubber), and over 30 years of experience, Phoenix Associates is well-equipped to handle any of your splicing needs. We commonly work with Mil-Spec materials from top extruders and have vulcanized some very unusual profiles. Heat Activated Tape (HAT) is an adhesive that is bound to rubber or foam using heat and pressure. It creates an extremely durable bond that essentially welds the tape to an extrusion. This manufacturing method is most often seen in door and window seals that will experience temperature swings and repeated use. Our products are used in applications from yacht bulkheads/portholes to oilfield seals. Phoenix Associates uses genuine 3M HAT to ensure the highest quality bond and longest lasting products.
